Matthew Stafford Confidence for Week 1
Wed, Jul 30, 2025, 12:39 PM
The Rams remain confident that Stafford (back) will be available Week 1, though he remains absent from practice Wednesday and the team has not provided an expected timetable for his return to the field, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Head coach Sean McVay has only referred to Stafford as "week-to-week" while acknowledging that internally Los Angeles has "a plan in place," but he at least said Tuesday he feels "very confident" that the veteran quarterback will take the field Sept. 7 versus the Texans for the Rams' regular-season opener. "What I don't want to do is set a timetable with you guys and then for whatever reason as we're continuing to gain information, that changes," McVay said. In the meantime, Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to handle first-team quarterback reps. It remains to be seen whether Stafford will be back on the field in time to participate in joint practices ahead of Los Angeles' first two preseason games, which will be against the Cowboys on Aug. 8 and the Chargers on Aug. 16.
Tutu Atwell
Tutu Atwell Competing with Whittington to start
Mon, Jul 28, 2025, 10:24 AM
Atwell and Jordan Whittington are competing for the No. 3 WR job, Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire reports.
Analysis: It's a role that could entail large snap counts in coach Sean McVay's three-wide-heavy offense, although target volume would be tougher to come by unless Puka Nacua or Davante Adams were to miss time. Atwell's one-year, $10 million contract might be taken as a sign that he's the favorite for the No. 3 role, but Whittington reportedly is making a real push and impressing at training camp for the second straight summer. They're drastically different players, with Atwell being one of the smallest players in the league -- listed at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds -- while Whittington (6-1, 202) is noted for his physicality. Atwell had some brief stretches of production early in the 2023 and 2024 campaigns when other Rams WRs were injured, but he never topped 562 receiving yards or three TDs in a single regular season over the course of his rookie contract.
Jordan Whittington
Jordan Whittington Battling for No. 3 role
Mon, Jul 28, 2025, 9:50 AM
Whittington has made a strong impression at camp so far and will continue battling Tutu Atwell for the No. 3 spot at wide receiver, according to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire.
Analysis: Whittington was also said to be a standout of training camp last year -- after the Rams drafted him in the sixth round -- and as a rookie he had 62 or more receiving yards in each of the three games in which he took 30-plus snaps. He barely played once Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson and Atwell all were healthy, but Whittington could play more in 2025 after the Rams swapped out Kupp and Robinson for Davante Adams. Any upside in terms of target volume, rather than just snaps, might require Adams or Nacua missing time.
Matthew Stafford
Matthew Stafford Won't return to practice Monday
Sat, Jul 26, 2025, 5:09 PM
Rams coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Stafford (back) isn't going to return to practice Monday and is considered week-to-week, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Stafford has been dealing with a sore back since the start of training camp, but he was previously expected to take part in the Rams' first padded practice of training camp Monday. It appears that will no longer be the case, as McVay stated that the team will take it a week at a time with Stafford, though the head coach also indicated that the QB did not suffer a setback. The goal is still to have Stafford ready to play Week 1, while Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to work with the first-team offense in camp until Stafford is ready to participate.

Matthew Stafford In line to practice Monday
Fri, Jul 25, 2025, 4:08 PM
Stafford (back) is expected to participate in the Rams' first padded practice of training camp Monday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Stafford reported to training camp earlier this week with a sore back, which has resulted in him working inside with team trainers in the meantime. After agreeing to a new two-year, $80 million contract with the Rams in the offseason, he's set to serve as the team's starting quarterback for a fifth consecutive season, and his top WR duo will be Puka Nacua and Davante Adams after L.A. moved on from Cooper Kupp.

Matthew Stafford Working indoors with trainers
Thu, Jul 24, 2025, 12:00 PM
Stafford (back) wasn't present at Wednesday's practice, instead working indoors with the training staff, Adam Grosbard of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Analysis: The report suggests Stafford is still only expected to miss a handful of practices, aiming to return for the second week of training camp. He signed a two-year, $84 million extension in May, and there had been no report of any issue with his back until Rams coach Sean McVay revealed Tuesday that Stafford was out for the start of camp. McVay described the injury as "back soreness that kind of crept up" during the offseason, per Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. Jimmy Garoppolo figures to take most of the first-team QB reps during the opening week of training camp.

Matthew Stafford Tending to sore back
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 1:07 PM
Stafford is dealing with back soreness and will begin training camp working with Rams trainers on the side, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Per Greg Beacham of the Associated Press, coach Sean McVay indicated that Stafford's sore back "kind of crept up" on the quarterback this summer, but he's expected to miss only a handful of practices. Once he's back to full health, Stafford will be operating with a revamped receiving corps featuring newcomer Davante Adams in place of the departed Cooper Kupp, working opposite standout Puka Nacua.
Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams Intends to practice
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 12:31 PM
Williams is expected to practice after reporting to Rams training camp in the midst of contract negotiations, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Williams was a candidate to stage a hold-in until he got a new deal, but the running back himself dismissed that idea, telling Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com that he'll take the field throughout training camp and even Week 1 if a new contract hasn't been worked out. Williams remains the Rams' unquestioned No. 1 RB on the heels of back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns on the ground in which he also combined for 31 total touchdowns in 28 regular-season games. Next up behind Williams on the depth chart are 2024 third-round pick Blake Corum and rookie fourth-rounder Jarquez Hunter.
Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams Reports to camp
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 12:06 PM
Williams reported for the start of training camp as contract extension talks with the Rams continue, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes that Williams could opt to hold-in and not actually practice, however. The running back participated in offseason activities after Rams GM Les Snead said in March that he wanted to "engineer a long-term partnership" with Williams. The team has made significant investments in the backfield recently, taking Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 Draft and Jarquez Hunter in the fourth round this year. Williams, meanwhile, is entering the final year of his rookie contract after back-to-back seasons with at least 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns.
Puka Nacua
Puka Nacua Teaming up with Adams
Tue, Jul 22, 2025, 11:59 AM
Nacua and Davante Adams are entrenched as the top two options in the Rams' revamped WR room, ESPN.com's Sarah Barshop reports.
Analysis: Nacua is the only returning regular starter at wide receiver, with Cooper Kupp (Seahawks) and Demarcus Robinson (49ers) now playing for NFC West rivals. Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington are set to compete for the No. 3 job, which probably won't entail a ton of targets when both Nacua and Adams are healthy. Playing alongside Adams instead of Kupp will make it even harder for Nacua to approach last year's unsustainable, league-high 39.1 percent target rate, but he can potentially make up for a reduced share by playing more snaps (he took 487 in 11 regular-season games last year) and scoring more TDs (three).
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson Signing rookie deal with Rams
Sat, Jul 19, 2025, 12:10 PM
Ferguson is ready to sign his rookie deal with Los Angeles after having agreed to terms with the team on his four-year contract Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Ferguson had been among the second-round picks of the 2025 Draft class holding out for more guaranteed money in their rookie contracts, and Schefter now reports that he gets roughly $8 million of his four-year, $9.7 million deal guaranteed. Ferguson's draft capital and pass-catching chops promise real upside in the Rams' offense, surpassing 32-year-old incumbent starter Tyler Higbee. However, Higbee is healthy after missing most of 2024 due to injury, and he will provide a notable challenge for the rookie. Higbee is slated to hit free agency next offseason, however.
Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams Looking more explosive
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 12:56 PM
Rams running backs coach Ron Gould said recently that Williams is looking more explosive this offseason, Wyatt Miller of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: "The first thing that stood out to us was his explosiveness," Gould said of Williams. "One of the things (I noticed) was just his ability to stay grounded through some of his runs that was really, really evident in the work that he's put in, so really, really pleased with that." Williams averaged a pedestrian 4.1 yards per carry on a career-high 316 rushes last season. That marked a significant dip from his 5.0 YPC mark from the previous season. Williams also fumbled a career-high five times. Still, the Rams and Williams' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have reportedly been discussing an extension this offseason, but the sides have yet to hammer out an agreement. Williams is facing more backfield competition this season in the form of second-year back Blake Corum and rookie Jarquez Hunter. He's a risky early-round fantasy pick due to the lack of big play ability and proneness to turnovers.
Davante Adams
Davante Adams Healthy and happy in LA
Wed, Jun 11, 2025, 5:04 PM
Adams said Tuesday that he feels rejuvenated with the Rams, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Adams had a nice run for fantasy purposes with the Jets last season, but he caught just 58.8 percent of his targets in 11 games, relying on massive volume (114 targets) and touchdowns (seven) rather than per-target efficiency. That was also the case for most of his time in Las Vegas, where he caught 100 of 180 targets (55.6 percent) in 2022 and 103 of 175 targets (58.9 percent) in 2024. He'll likely have a higher catch rate but less target volume after joining the Rams on a two-year contract, now sharing an offense with QB Matthew Stafford and WR Puka Nacua. Positive reports from June minicamp don't erase concerns about age-related decline for the 32-year-old Adams, but there's an opportunity for impressive production if he still has juice, potentially playing for a good team for the first time since he was traded away from Green Bay after the 2021 campaign.
Blake Corum
Blake Corum Taking part in practice
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 10:44 AM
Corum (forearm) has been an active participant at OTAs, per the Rams' official site.
Analysis: Corum suited up for all 17 regular-season games during his uneventful rookie campaign but missed both of Los Angeles' playoff bouts due to a fractured forearm suffered Week 18. The 2024 third-round pick now seems back to full health, though heading into Year 2 he faces new competition from rookie fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter for the backup role behind Kyren Williams. As a rookie, Corum rushed just 58 times for 207 yards (3.6 YPC) while failing to reach the end zone, adding just seven catches (on eight targets) for 58 yards. Hunter boasts big-play speed that could make him a fitting complement to Williams, so Corum will need to show more this offseason to avoid being stuck in a negligible role again.
Britain Covey
Britain Covey Gets one-year deal with Rams
Mon, May 5, 2025, 2:23 PM
Los Angeles signed Covey (neck) to a one-year contract Monday.
Analysis: Covey spent last year with the Eagles, securing seven of eight targets for 34 yards across his five regular-season appearances. A neck injury sustained Week 13 forced Covey to land on IR, and though he resumed practicing in full late during the playoffs, he wasn't able to gain clearance in time to suit up for Philadelphia's win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. Now healthy, Covey will compete for an opportunity to earn a depth role with the Rams.
Matthew Stafford
Matthew Stafford Finalizes two-year, $84M deal
Mon, May 5, 2025, 1:23 PM
Stafford and the Rams finalized terms on a two-year, $84 million contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Stafford finally put pen to paper Monday after the two sides agreed to continue their relationship back in February. Stafford will collect $44 million in 2025, and if he's on the roster at the start of the 2026 league year, he'll earn another $40 million for that season. Stafford recently turned 37 years old this offseason, but coach Sean McVay has already stated he believes the quarterback has multiple good seasons left in the tank. Stafford completed 65.8 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 3,762 yards and a 20:8 TD:INT across 16 regular-season starts.
Tyler Higbee
Tyler Higbee May be challenged by rookie
Mon, Apr 28, 2025, 12:42 PM
The Rams spent a second-round pick on TE Terrance Ferguson, who some scouts have compared to Higbee, per Tyler Greenawalt of Rams Wire.
Analysis: The comparison makes sense if talking about Higbee as a draft prospect back in 2016, at which point he was carrying 249 pounds on a 6-foot-6 frame and mostly valued for pass-catching potential. It doesn't fit as well when discussing the current version of Higbee, listed at 255 pounds and valued for versatility. He's proven capable of taking on significant receiving workloads when needed, including during last season's playoffs, but it's never been something that coach Sean McVay prefers to do. With Ferguson competing for TE snaps and Davante Adams a probable upgrade on Cooper Kupp at wide receiver, Higbee appears unlikely to draw more than four or five targets per game, if that, in 2025. Higbee's bet shot at fantasy value would entail Adams or Puka Nacua missing time while Ferguson fails to earn a role.
Tutu Atwell
Tutu Atwell Expected to see increased snaps
Wed, Apr 2, 2025, 6:26 PM
Rams coach Sean McVay indicated that Atwell is going to be on the field "a lot more" this upcoming season after re-signing with Los Angeles on a one-year, $10 million contract in March, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: "I haven't done a good enough job of utilizing him," McVay said. "When you look at the times when he's been able to play, whether that be because some people were out or not, he has produced and he's delivered, and we're looking forward to seeing more of that ascension. He's going to be on the field a lot more, particularly in a lot of those three-receiver sets." With the ouster of Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson's exit in free agency coupled with the signing of Davante Adams, the Rams are expected to field a three-wide set of Puka Nacua, Adams and Atwell in 2025. As McVay noted, Atwell was particularly impressive on a per-snap basis last season, posting a strong 2.24 yards-per-route-run number. He'll be worth following this summer ahead of fantasy drafts as a potential late-round option.
Kyren Williams
Kyren Williams Discussing extension
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 3:22 PM
Rams GM Les Snead said Monday that he wants to "engineer a long-term partnership" with Williams, Gary Klein of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: Williams has been a polarizing player in the fantasy sphere since his 2023 breakout, and that's unlikely to change after he dipped to 4.1 YPC in 2024 while fumbling six times (including once in the playoffs). He otherwise had another big year, ranking third in carries per game (19.8), sixth in rushing yards per game (81.2) and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (14), giving him 26 rushing scores and five receiving TDs in 38 regular-season games over the past two seasons. Blake Corum, a 2024 third-round pick, never made a serious push to threaten Williams last season, and it sounds like the Rams would rather give Williams a contract extension than search for his replacement. Snead said he's already exchanged initial contract terms with agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Ronnie Rivers
Ronnie Rivers Staying in Los Angeles
Sun, Mar 16, 2025, 1:22 PM
Rivers signed a one-year contract with the Rams on Sunday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Rivers opened the 2024 regular season as the Rams' No. 2 running back behind Kyren Williams, but he was eventually bumped down to third string by rookie Blake Corum. Rivers saw plenty of work on special teams for the Rams last season and should reprise that role in 2025. He finished the 2024 campaign with 22 carries for 99 yards and five catches (on six targets) for 34 yards across 17 regular-season games.
